This was the design of the World (Wide) Wrestling Federation title belt from 1971-1982, and the object of "Superstar" Billy Graham's obsession throughout his entire WWF tenure.  For over a decade, the WW(W)F's championship belt remained unchanged.  That is, of course, until the Fall of `82 when The Superstar returned to the WWF, at which time he promptly stormed to ringside during one of Bob Backlund's matches and proceeded to literally tear the gold plates off the belt and rip the thick leather strap in half.  Backlund received a new title belt, but the damage had been done.

The real crime of the situation is that when the WWF created/introduced its new belt, the old, destroyed version was thrown away.

That's right, they tossed it!

Nearly twenty years later, the WWF opened its theme restaurant/entertainment complex in downtown New York City, a state-of-the-art facility that, among other things, features rare momentos from the WWF's rich past, including various old WWF championship straps.  Meanwhile, somewhere in Brooklyn, Sal the garbage man has the mangled former WWF World title belt sitting on top of his TV, propped up against a nicotine-stained wall.

Vinnie Mac...what were you thinking???
