For those of you who are reminded of The Texas Chainsaw Masacre or some other gory movie by this photo, sorry brother, but it's not blood.  The nurses are simply applying an iodine-like solution to me, to prevent infection.  It looks kind of gross, but at this point in the procedure, I actually hadn't even been opened up.
