Here I am at a TV taping for Vince Sr.'s WWWF back in `77 during my reign as the champ.  I pulled this photo out of storage and put it on the site for one reason -- with my belt, my furs, my bandana and my colors, The Superstar is lookin' good, brother!

I'm just joking, but one thing I'm serious about is that my wrestling persona was a complete work, something that came from my head rather than my heart.  But, I still had a lot of fun portraying the villain.  I had even more fun when I was a babyface and was allowed to treat my fans as though they were friends, rather than something I'd squash with my boot.  Back in those days, you lived your role, and if you were a 'bad guy' on TV, then you were a bad guy 24 hours a day...or at least until there were no more fans around you.

My "problem" was that I always enjoyed talking to my fans, signing their autographs and interacting with them, so even though being a heel in the ring was fun and easy for me, doing so outside of the ring was something I didn't really enjoy at all.  I still can remember more than a few promoters chewing me out for being 'too nice' to the fans during my days as one of the top heels in the business.

Man...if they could only see things the way they are today!
