Here's another shot of Pat's unique (and to his co-workers, admirable) talent for juicing.  Again, the wound appears extremely realistic, and was very different from the way other wrestlers (including myself) bled.  It may seem like a small thing, but realism and believability was the cornerstone of wrestling at that time, especially when you were wrestling in Roy Shire's territory, and Patterson's "talent" was considered a very valuable asset during that era.
