Perhaps the last major feud in the career of "Superstar" Billy Graham came when he faced off in a program with the young, brash former multi-time Inter-Continental champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Valentine, who had made a career on the reputation he gained over the years by "breaking" the legs of some of wrestling's most beloved fan favorites, set his sights on the former Heavyweight champion, with the hope of making The Superstar his next "trophy."
In terms of the storyline, he was eventually able to do that. Graham and Valentine faced off in dozens of matches, with the feud's momentum swaying back and forth between the two. But in the end, "The Hammer" came down on Graham, and his leg was snapped (via Valentine's infamous Figure Four leglock) by the son of the legendary Johnny Valentine during a dastardly sneak attack.
In the following months, "Superstar" Billy Graham was shown on WWF programming in various stages of making his recovery following surgery. Vingettes featured the popular veteran training hard in the desert sands of Paradise Valley, determined to climb his way back to the top of the WWF.
Graham did just that, and was scheduled to be part of his protege' Hulk Hogan's Survivor Series team when his failing body once again gave out on him. Unable to wrestle, Graham (as had been the case with Valentine) was used as a means to elevate another young wrestler's career, only this time around it was the 6'8" 450 lb. One Man Gang. During one of the WWF's TV tapings, OMG nailed his lethal "747 Splash" repeatedly on Graham and the fans watched as Graham was once again stretchered out of both the ring and the WWF's churning storylines. However, this time, he wasn't coming back. Both in fiction and reality, the in-ring career of "Superstar" BIlly Graham was finally over -- although he would reappear on WWF television again several months later, as a color commentator to Gorilla Monsoon's play-by-play.
